My Rough Statement

I am by no means a great photographer/cinematographer; I cannot even be considered a writer. But I feel that my passion for international arts and culture can set me apart from other artists. My biggest dream is to work on independent or collaboration projects…internationally. My heritage is Taiwanese and this is very important to me. My parents often tell me how much the place has changed since they moved to California and I want to capture some of these changes along with what they remember; all the things I want to capture I wish to share with everyone through the means of public resources like blogs, YouTube, and other sources. I want to share this history and art for free because I want people to connect with where they came from.

My project proposal is to first travel to Taiwan four different times in the year (in conjunction with the four seasons) and then hopefully to expand to other places. The breakdown of the project is one main idea that may break down into two smaller sections. The big general idea is to deal with the history and people of Taiwan and how the seasons change the views and sometimes brings out different stories. The seasons are important because it really shows how harsh how some lives are and these people are also often more generous when they have very little to spare. My parents told me that when they were leaving Taiwan, a typhoon was approaching so many street venders had decided to not show up and stay with family. However, walking along the street once populated by venders, they saw a man still trying to sell vegetables and the only ‘rain resistant’ article he was wearing was a moped helmet. While walking past, the man saw that they were sharing an umbrella and told them to ‘stay dry and have a nice day’ after they said they didn’t need to buy any vegetables.
